Every parent has the right to a relationship with their child. Even in cases where the parents are going through a nasty divorce full of domestic abuse allegations, children should still be able to spend time with both of their parents.
In situations where accusations involving abuse play a role, a judge may only allow supervised visitation with the children. This is done in order to ensure the child’s safety, while also still allowing the child and parent to spend time together under the watchful eye of an advocate.
Paul Nassif, who is the estranged husband to “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” reality star Adrienne Maloof, was recently awarded supervised visitation with the couple’s three children. This is amid a bitter contested divorce between the couple.
In September, two months after Maloof filed for legal separation and later a divorce, she accused her ex of verbally and physically abusing her in front of the children. Then, just last week, she obtained a temporary restraining order against her soon-to-be ex-husband. Her claim was that he was also abusing the couple’s three sons.
Upon hearing of this alleged abuse, the Department of Children and Family Services started to investigate. Those claims have since gone unfounded. However, the visitation time Nassif has with his children will still be supervised for the time being.
