A player for the Panthers claims that he has not fallen behind on any of his child support obligations, regardless of what the mother of his 2-year-old son is trying to claim. Rather, he has reportedly been paying the court-approved modified amount instead of the temporary amount he was previously paying.
According to his agent, the claim that he owes $23,000 is “frivolous” and is just an example of his ex trying to take advantage of his celebrity status.
According to the agent, last summer a district court judge dropped the temporary $4,000 a month agreement to $1,500 a month. The temporary order was supposedly based on the fact that the mother was the sole provider and the boy had health issues.
However, the new amount was set over the summer and the Panthers player has reportedly been making his $1,500 a month payments since then.
Looking at court records, the NFL player paid the $4,000 a month in February and April. Since June, when the new amount was set, he has been paying an average of $1,500 a month. This means that since he started paying child support, he has paid $17,000. However, his ex is claiming she should have been paid $40,000, which puts him $23,000 behind.
His ex, who owns and operates a prenatal ultrasound clinic, said she works and takes care of her son. She said she only wants his father to be paying for his son and doing his part as a parent.
In the court petition, that was filed late November, there is a request to have what is allegedly owed withheld from his NFL paychecks.
In general, cases like this are a prime example of why a father would want to have legal representation. For while a mother might be claiming a father owes child support, the father could have an entirely different story.
