Jeremy Renner disputes ex-wife’s child support allegations

Illinois fans of actor Jeremy Renner might be interested in learning about the star’s ongoing child support saga. He was divorced in 2015 and ordered to pay his ex-wife of 8 months, Sonni Pacheco, $13,000 per month in child support.

Pacheco has filed documents with the court, claiming that Renner owes her more than $48,000 in delinquent child support. She also claims that he has refused to pay their daughter’s preschool tuition. Their daughter, who is 3, attends a preschool that charges $1,600 per month.

A spokesperson for Renner stated that Pacheco’s claims are erroneous and that the actor has paid his child support in full every month. The spokesperson also said that the court never ordered Renner to pay the preschool tuition, and he characterized Pacheco’s court filing as an attempt to both publicly humiliate Renner while also trying to enrich herself at the expense of Renner rather than trying to benefit their child.

Family courts order child support in the best interests of the child rather than in either parent’s best interests. Child support is meant to help the child to live in the kind of circumstances that he or she would have enjoyed if the parents had stayed together. A person who is going through tough financial times after a child support order may ask the court to reduce the amount by filing a motion to modify child support. A family law attorney might help with getting the process started. Even if a modification is granted, it will only affect future payments and any arrearages will still be owed in full.
