Software aims to streamline child support process for parents

13181790_S.jpgDivorced fathers in St. Clair County know that keeping on top of finances after a divorce can be challenging. Regardless of whether a father has to pay child support to an ex-spouse or if he receives it, the timing of payments can sometimes be less than regular for any number of reasons. In many cases, parents could use all the help they can get.

Celebrity moms targeted for not allowing dads to see their kids

8571352_S.jpgMany family law cases in Illinois don't necessarily make the news. Families break up all the time these days, so getting a divorce is hardly a novelty. For movie stars, however, almost nothing is private. Celebrities who get married in the public eye often can't expect privacy when they get divorced.

Divorce rate for military personnel drops in 2013

20394218_S.jpgThe divorce rate in the military reportedly decreased in the 2013 fiscal year according to new data from the Department of Defense. The report found that for every 100 troops that got married in 2013, three to four reported a divorce. Although the rate only decreased from 3.5 percent last year, to 3.4 percent this year, this may be a statistically significant number considering the size of the military.

Struggling with identity after military divorce in Illinois

3350230_S.jpgWith military service comes a great deal of responsibility and pride for an entire family. When someone in Illinois serves in the military, both the person in service to their country and their spouse will likely grow accustomed to a certain lifestyle in the military.

Illinois child custody exchange sites play important role

12619570_S.jpgCo-parenting is very difficult for many Illinois residents. Even when a divorced couple's relationship remains fairly amicable, it can be tough for exes to get on the same page when it comes to parenting. And, when the relationship between ex-spouses is adverse - as is often the case after divorce - sharing physical and/or legal custody of children is easier said than done.

Illinois cracks down on domestic violence

23550499_S.jpgTougher domestic violence laws are slated to take effect on Jan. 1 in Illinois. Under the new law, repeat offenders will face more serious charges than they currently do; all repeat offenses will be charged at the felony level. Four or more convictions can result in up to a 14-year prison sentence. As the state prepares to crack down on domestic violence in 2014, several county and city governments in Illinois also have local efforts underway.
